Npp Reply NDC's enough is enough Demonstration
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has responded to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) recent “Enough is Enough” demonstration, stating that the NDC claims of irregularities in the provisional voters register lack substance.
On a press briefing today Monday, September 19, NPP General Secretary Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua explain that, the NDC has yet to provide the EC with detailed information regarding irregularities, discrepancies, or unauthorised entries in the provisional voters’ register, despite the NDC’s purported evidence comprising about 250,000 infractions.
"We can’t run from the fact that during the September 6, 2024 meeting, the EC requested the NDC to furnish them with details of all discrepancies identified, but to date, the NDC is yet to submit such information,” said an NPP representative.
The NPP said that, it would be hypocritical to suggest that the NDC acted wrongly by engaging the Electoral Commission with their concerns. “Historically, the NPP has been known for being lead advocates and proponents for most of the electoral reforms that have positively shaped our nation’s democracy,”.
Kodua questioned why the NDC has not submitted evidence of the alleged illegal transfers to the Electoral Commission, if they have any.
“We believe strongly that the nationwide demonstration by the NDC would have been justified had the EC failed to act after receiving evidence from the NDC on the alleged irregularities and discrepancies,” he said.
The NPP General Secretary also argued that the NDC has a history of inciting their supporters to violence, referencing incidents that occurred following the 2020 elections.
Lawyer frimpong Kodia said, the leadership of the party, upon losing elections, “urged their supporters to demonstrate on the streets and refrain from recognising President Akufo-Addo as the winner of the elections.”
“Their current National Chairman, who was at that time General Secretary of the Party, could not tell the Supreme Court the total votes that were amassed by the NDC and the total valid votes that were cast during the elections,” he said.
